Farewell Camp Lejeune | Camp Lejeune Family Photography
Recently, I had the honor of photographing a truly special family as they said goodbye to a place that held years of memories—Camp Lejeune. I first connected with them through Portraits for Patriots, a volunteer program that provides professional headshots for transitioning service members, whether they are getting out, or retiring. What began as a simple connection quickly turned into something more meaningful when they invited me to capture their final family portraits before Dad’s retirement from the Marine Corps.
We met at the beautiful Marston Pavilion, nestled by the water, with golden sunlight peeking through the trees—an ideal backdrop for such an emotional session. It was clear this home, this base, and this chapter had shaped their lives in profound ways. The children, who are all grown now, reminisced of growing up on the base and talked about all the fun activities they did as kids. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the fun stories about Dad’s career and all of their adventures moving around the world.
As a Camp Lejeune family photographer, moments like these are why I do what I do. It’s about more than pictures—it’s about preserving stories, honoring service, and holding onto the emotions that come with each new beginning. I’m grateful to have witnessed this family’s love, strength, and transition, and even more honored to have been the one to document it.
Here’s to new adventures—and always remembering where you started.
