Scheduling your newborn photography session | What you should know
Are you expecting, or have you recently given birth? I want to say congratulations and thank you for stopping by. What an exciting time in your life, and I am glad you’re here to learn more about getting your memories captured.
I’m Al, a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP), and I specialize in posed newborn portraits in my Jacksonville, NC, photography studio. Posed newborn sessions are great for artfully capturing babies’ “newness.” Whether dressed up, dressed down or swaddled up in a bowl, there are many possibilities with a posed session.
I have been photographing newborns for ten years and found these sessions best conducted within the first two weeks of life. Photographing your baby during this window is essential because babies are nice and sleepy and enjoy womblike poses. Although photographing babies earlier in life is ideal, I have taken babies up to six weeks old.
You might wonder, “what does this all mean when booking my newborn session?”.
To put it clearly, booking your session before the baby’s arrival is ideal. I recommend booking your newborn session early at the end of your second trimester. Booking early ensures that I will be available as I take on a limited number of sessions a month, especially during busy times like Summer break or the holiday season.
Although the baby’s arrival can be unpredictable, I schedule your due date on my calendar when you book your newborn photography session. Once discharged from the hospital and home with the baby, we will schedule your newborn session within that two-week window.
“What if my baby is already here?”
Sometimes parents get lost in pregnancy bliss and do not think of a newborn session until after the baby arrives, which is understandable. If I can, I will try my hardest to fit in unscheduled newborn sessions, but my schedule may not always allow it, so I strongly urge parents to book early.
If your baby is older than the recommended two-week window, there is no need to stress. I can take older babies up to six weeks old that still tolerate the newborn poses, schedule permitting.
“This all sounds great, and I am ready to book!”
I am excited to hear this and cannot wait for the opportunity to chat with you! We will go over the session, styling, and any questions or concerns you may have about your session. Please fill out the contact form and include your due date (or birth date if the baby is already here) so I can confirm my availability for you. Next, we will schedule a phone call or meet and greet at the studio. Once we have spoken, you will fill out a booking portal, and I will confirm your newborn session with me once completed!
